Why is My Wife Selling Her Car?
My wife's parents bought her this 62 Chevy Bel-Air when she was 15 years old before she even had a driver's license because she liked the car so much. She drove it in high school and college, and after we moved to Birmingham while I was in optometry school, she drove it for a few months. Then the heater core went out on it, so she had no heat....so we parked it in her parents' barn where it stayed for 17 years!
When she turned 40, I had it restored and rebuilt for her. Our mechanic put in a new crate factory rebuilt 350 with a ZZ4 kit from Chevy (this put over 400 HP in it, but we had to swap out the cam so my wife could handle the blub, blub, blub, sound better--now it sounds REALLY good when you punch it). I added dual exhaust, power steering, automatic transmission with overdrive, had all the brake lines rebuilt with disc brakes on the front, added anti-sway bars, and added air conditioning, period mag wheels and mag spare tire, tinted the windows, lowered the front end, and added a new stereo with USB/3.5mm inputs with Kenwood speakers.

The car used to float down the road like a big boat....now it drives and handles like a go-cart. I kept the original rear end which makes it cruise down the interstate easily at 80mph at low RPM. We have only driven it about 300 miles in the past 12 years, and just last fall I replaced all five tires (includes spare) and had all the wiring rebuilt with a new wiring harness by a master car electrician.
So why is she wanting to sell it now?
Well, our daughter, who is a sophomore in college, decided to take a year out and volunteer at an orphanage in Bolivia called Familia Feliz. The orphanage has grown rapidly recently because the need has been so great. They now need approximately $13,000/mo to support over 100 kids and the staff/teachers. They rely totally upon donations and are in desperate need for campus renovations and new classrooms, but have a hard time raising enough money every month just for food and living expenses for all the students.
My wife and I have prayed through the years if God ever needed us to sell/donate any of His assets He has placed in our hands, to impress us both at the same time when He needed us to do it.
Today, my wife called me and said, "I want to sell my car to help Familia Feliz". I know that is a huge deal for her, but I am totally in support. I prayed how in the world could we sell it to get the most out of it for the orphanage (E-bay, Craigslist, consignment with dealer in antique cars, park it in the yard at our house, or my office). Then the idea came to me to start a website and let people just bid via the website, and we will post the current bid on the website....then once the silent reserve is met, the bidding will close and the winner will be announced. We will sell it to the highest bidder and donate all the proceeds to the orphanage. Proof of our donation will be provided the purchaser of the car so they know their money went to help a great cause.
We want to put the word out to the most people as possible to maximize the impact of her donating the car that has so much sentimental value for her.
Please consider placing a generous bid here to help support the orphanage!
P.S. It's ok to bid more than the car is worth....all the proceeds will go to support the orphange!
